Rodecaster Duo Unboxed

Packing a Sonic Punch in a Compact Package!

Welcome, audio enthusiasts! Buckle up as we delve into the world of RØDE’s latest marvel - the Roadcaster Duo, a compact integrated audio production studio set to redefine your podcasting and content creation landscape.

Now, I’m no stranger to RØDE’s audio prowess. In December 2018, when RØDE launched their first Rodecaster Pro, I quickly jumped on the bandwagon. In September 2020, I finally got my hands on one and created an unboxing and demo video showcasing its fantastic array of accessories, from Podmics to booms, cables, and carrying cases. (You can find the link to that video Here.)

"Rodecaster Pro, A Podcaster's Dream"

As time passed, RØDE didn’t rest on their laurels. In February 2021, they released an updated version of the Rodecaster Pro, aptly named the Rodecaster Pro II (RCPII). At around $700, it was a mouth-watering proposition, albeit a bit out of my budget. I decided to hold off on upgrading and continue with my trusty Rodecaster Pro.

Fast forward to June 2023, and RØDE is back in the spotlight, launching several exciting new items, including the Streamer X and the showstopper - the Roadcaster Duo. As the name suggests, it’s reminiscent of the Rodecaster Pro II but comes with two fewer outlets/ports. At $500, it seemed like the stars had finally aligned for me to make that long-awaited upgrade.

Rodecaster Duo

This tiny titan might be small, but its features could make any audio tech enthusiast’s heart flutter like a hummingbird. First on our list is the high-gain Revolution Preamps™, offering an ultra-low-noise output with a jaw-dropping -131.5dBV EIN and 76dB gain. These stats may sound like Greek, but in layperson’s terms, you’re looking at some audio-severe magic!

Pair that with two high-quality Neutrik® combo inputs for attaching microphones, instruments, and line-level devices, and you’ve got yourself a home studio. But wait, there’s more! The Roadcaster Duo has a built-in wireless receiver, allowing you to connect up to two RØDE Series IV transmitters, including the Wireless GO II and Wireless ME.

Its seven individually assignable channels separate the Roadcaster Duo from the rest of the pack. This little gadget is punching well above its weight with four physical faders of broadcast quality and three virtual ones. Running all this under the hood is a high-performance quad-core audio engine that purrs like a lion.

But this tiny warrior doesn’t stop there. It comes equipped with APHEX® audio processing and onboard effects, making your podcasts sound like they’ve been produced in a professional studio. Throw in six fully programmable SMART pads with bank switching, and you’ve got a recipe for an unforgettable audio experience.

The Roadcaster Duo’s connectivity features also stand out in the crowd. It has dual USB-C interfaces connecting two computers or mobile devices, advanced Bluetooth® for high-quality phone call integration, and even a 3.5mm TRRS input for connecting headphones and headsets. Talk about having all your bases covered!

Navigating this dynamo is as easy as a walk in the park, thanks to its 5.5-inch high-definition touchscreen with haptic feedback and a rotary encoder. With RØDE’s commitment to regular firmware updates, the Roadcaster Duo is always at the top of its game.

And where you may ask, does this little beast hail from? It’s designed and made in RØDE’s state-of-the-art facilities in sunny Sydney, Australia. So, not only are you getting a compact powerhouse, but you’re also getting a product backed by a brand known for its excellence in audio tech.

So there you have it, folks. The Roadcaster Duo is here and ready to transform your audio world. Give this little beast a chance, and you’ll soon wonder how you managed without it. Your audience will thank you!
